Choose any group of people, whether defined by race, ethnicity, language, gender, religion, political affiliation, or economic class. Describe and then analyze the experiences of this group of people during a historical event of your choosing that has been covered in this course. Compare and contrast this group’s experiences with the experiences of other groups who also experienced that historical event. Discuss what conclusions you can draw from this. Your choices must be from BEFORE 1980. YOU MAY NOT COVER POST-1980.

Because this is a Gordon Rule class, writing is an important component. All papers must be properly cited (include footnotes or endnotes AND bibliography) using Turabian or Chicago style formats. All papers must be submitted ON TIME via Canvas. All papers must be a minimum of 3 COMPLETE pages of the text of your paper, excluding any bibliography, endnotes, or title pages. You must use Times New Roman 12 point font. You must double space. You do NOT need a title page or even to put your name on the paper. All papers must use your textbook, at least one primary source, and at least two additional secondary source. One of your additional secondary source MUST be from a peer reviewed article accessed via the library database, JSTOR. Your second additional secondary source may be either from JSTOR or a scholarly book. If you are not sure if your book is scholarly, ask me in advance of the due date. JSTOR is accessible via the databases on the libraries website. If you don’t know how to access it, please ask either me or the librarians for assistance. I have created a narrated screencast in the “Everything You Need to Know About the paper, peer review, and plagiarism” module that walks you through how to access and search JSTOR.  Websites are not acceptable as extra sources unless approved by me in advance. AND THEY CAN NEVER REPLACE THE PEER REVIEWED JOURNAL ARTICLE REQUIREMENT. I am happy to read and give feedback on rough drafts, as long as they are submitted to me via email at least one week prior to the due date.

Remember — Papers must include Chicago/Turabian footnotes or endnotes and bibliography. Papers must have a thesis statement. Please look over the handouts on thesis statements and arguments in the papers module. You may only use the sources provided in Canvas and proper academic sources. This means no Wikipedia or random websites. You MUST use, at minimum, your textbook and a peer reviewed journal article from JSTOR.  If you are in doubt about the appropriateness of a source, always ask me in advance.  Papers must include an introduction paragraph, body paragraphs, and a conclusion paragraph.
