Introduction to the Overall Assessment

Ethics is an inevitable aspect in life, and each individual finds themselves under a condition that requires them to apply some form of ethical principle or knowledge, either knowingly or unknowingly. Throughout this course, we have learnt of several aspects of ethical business practices, and the implications they have on the organization and the individual who practice them, as well as other stakeholders within the same context. Notably, ethic is a multifaceted concept that requires an expansive understanding of the fundamental principles and practices. Learning about factors such as cultural factors that determine ethical practice and what leadership principles, or theories support different ethical perspectives has been of great importance in shaping the personal understanding of ethics and professional development (Robinson‐Pant & Singal, 2019). Business administration is a course that will definitely require the application of ethic, either professionally or from the personal standard. Therefore, in this paper, I provide a summary of the journey that has constituted this course; by looking at the implications of the personal assessment outcomes, class assignments, and the discussion forums on personal ethics and professional moral understanding with an emphasis on how to develop a comprehensive outlook of ethics and ethical practices in the future.

A Review of My Personal Ethics Assessments

The results of the personal assessment test indicated different aspects of my ethical standards. For instance, based on character analysis, my performance was higher than everyone’s else, including the institution. However, the results were a bit lower under Charity and Condor analysis. Based on these results, one can infer the different ethical perspectives various people hold. For example, while I morally believe in helping others attain happiness first, some consider achieving personal fulfilment before others, and some people believe in fulfilling their professional obligations regardless of the impacts. Thus, the potential difference in results, and possible areas of improvement such as having a conditioned ethical perspective or belief.

A Review of the Discussion Board Information

Discussion forums have had a great impact on my ethical understanding.  The discussion forum involved a series of new ideas and insights on ethical practices in business such as the frameworks that guide leadership and individuals in making choices, changes in ethical practices across the globe. Notably, the different ethical perspective has varied applications, and there is no fit-for all ethical viewpoint, possibly due to the dynamics of different industries, people, and cultures. Therefore, despite the notion that the consequentialist approach is used across various institutions, it does not work best in every context. This realization was significant because it contrasted my long-held view that utilitarianism was the best ethical approach in every context. Apparently, the effectiveness of an ethical approach depends on a wide array of factors, including organization, industry, people, industry, and professional obligation.

A Review of the Assignment Information

Like the discussion forums, the assignment also crafted new insights, strengthened existed ones, and contrasted with personal ethical viewpoints on issues such as effective leadership and organizational success. Case studies and scholarly article summaries indicated that ethics is subjective, and the type of viewpoint or perspective one held within an organization or industry mattered less if the prevailing approach contrasts an individuals. However, despite the difference and challenges, each person has their own viewpoint, and the best approach is to find a mutual ground that offers each side positive impacts.

How I can use this Information for the Future

Learning about ethics s no doubt a significant step towards a successful career. As stated in the introduction, we experience some form of an instance where ethical knowledge is of great importance in determining the outcome of a decision or problem. Thus, with an extensive grasp of the fundamental elements of ethical decision-making, problem-solving, and leadership; one can ensure success in these areas and many more. Therefore, the significance of the gained knowledge through the exercises, discussions, and personal assessment in future obligations.


The two points that I will discuss in this section are the global changes in ethical practice, and what constitutes ethical leadership. Several studies have reported on the deviation from the Western ethical practices, especially with the changing world thanks to globalization and widespread of international trade (De Clercq et al., 2017; Robinson‐Pant & Singal, 2019; Yasir & Rasli, 2018). This means that for American-based companies with branches in foreign regions, change is paramount to adapt to these new cultures and their ethical foundations, both for success and uniformity (Singh & Gaur, 2020). In terms of ethical leadership, while most studies have tended to focus on transformational, charismatic and servant leadership as the best, partly due to their consequentialist approach to leadership (Yasir & Rasli, 2018). However, it is important to note the variations that characterize business administration. Promoting such notions can pose challenges to institutions with cultures that promote their success, although based on different ethical direction.

I have always valued teamwork and based choices on outcomes. In other words, I emphasize the impacts that actions might have on the outcomes. As a leader, one’s actions must lead to the greater good for the greater population (Chen et al., 2018). That way, for instance, I base choices on group discussion that ensures everyone benefits in the long run. There are cases where group assignments would mean that each person shares the outcomes equally. In such cases, I tend to stand for teamwork in which people fill in for their absent colleagues so that the work is completed in good time and we achieve the maximum score. While the outcomes are always great, there are cases where some members would take that advantage and miss out on purpose, or others will frown on the suggestion and practically dissociate with us in a future assignment. Regardless, I do feel that it is the most effective way to address a similar situation.


The course has had a significant impact on developing and extending my ethical perspective. I have always valued the consequentialist approach to decision-making because of the perception that it is the fairest in terms of the outcomes. However, I have come to realize that fairness and ethics are subjective and that what separates good from bad are several. I have learnt that even long-held ethical viewpoints are continuously changing because of factors such as technology, and globalization. Therefore, with this knowledge, I plan to have an open mind regarding ethical leadership practices. That is, I will be willing to accept and implement whenever necessary new or diverse ethical viewpoints as a leader.


Being an ethical leader is one of the major requirements for any leader. However, it is not an easy task to meet all the anticipations or characteristics of an effective leader. Reasons for this challenge include the diverse ideas on ethics, ethical practices, globalization, innovation, and organizational cultures and expectations. However, it is not impossible to be an effective ethical leader. Hence, the significance of having a comprehensive understanding of ethics.
