Claudia Rankine’s poem explains that we are going through a very difficult time with the Coronavirus
pandemic as thousands of innocent and good people are killed. In addition, we are also going through a
very difficult time with the injustice of the police against people of color. The police are discriminating
against people for their skin color and mercilessly killing people, as they did with George Floyd. The poem
says, however, that no matter how big the storm is, we have to be strong and fight together against this
coronavirus. We also have to fight so that police brutality against black people and all people of color
ends, for the sake of our rights as citizens
