These correspond to the peaks of human visual receptor curves, and any color humans perceive is just a mixture of these three. Assume red is 625nm and green is 535nm. The former is in the visual range and the eye sees it as yellow. Red plus green is yellow.Procedure1.Find the red and green LEDs. Apply a strip of scotch tape to each LED so its light will be diffuse. Waxed paper will work, too, as will toilet paper if all else fails. Just tape it in place so the LED has to shine through it.2.Twist together the bare copper end of the green wire on the green LED to that of the black wire on the red LED. They are going to be wired in series. Tape this connection if it will help keep it in place.3.Touch the red wire’s bare end to the minus terminal of a 9-volt batteryand the free black wire to the positive. Remember these LEDs are color-codedin a peculiar fashion. Both LEDs should light up at once. Just don’t keep them on too long as this pushestheir limits.4.Shine both LEDs on a white surface to mix their colors. The green is,by its nature,brighter, so the red must be put closer. This requires about three hands and it may be necessary to tape both of the wires to their battery terminals.5.Play with the distances until yellow is seen. To this day, it still remains a bit strange to realize that yellow light is red+green.
